Deter Raccoons

Raccoons can be fun to watch, until they claim your bird feeders as their own! Some of the same techniques for defeating squirrels will deter raccoons, but keep in mind that raccoons are much heavier and stronger than squirrels. Here are some tips for keeping raccoons out of your feeders:

• Use a baffle on pole-mounted bird feeding setups.
• Place aluminum flashing around tree trunks where you hang feeders from tree branches.
• When feeding birds from a deck, place the bottom of hanging feeders at least three feet from the deck railing.
