Barn Swallows have a distinctive long, forked tail. They hunt insects by darting over open fields and bodies of water.
Tree Swallows will use man-made nest boxes. Many natural sites are depleted due to cutting of dead trees in their natural habitats, and placing boxes can help boost their populations.
Violet-green Swallows live across much of the western US and Canada. They prefer open woodlands.
