The Organization for Bat Conservation

The Organization for Bat Conservation (OBC) has partnered with Wild Birds Unlimited to help the public understand the useful and interesting role bats can play in their yards. When you purchase a WBU/OBC Bat House from Wild Birds Unlimited, you are eligible to register the house for research purposes. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the houses will go to OBC to support research, rescue, conservation and education projects.
 

Why help bats?
Bats play an important role in our ecosystem by eating millions of insects in a night. Nature’s bug zappers, a single bat can eat up to 600 mosquitoes in one hour.

And, in North America, natural bat habitat is diminishing. This lack of habitat makes bat survival more difficult. Providing a bat house in your backyard is one way to provide roosting space for bats when natural habitat is scarce.

When selecting a bat house, it is important to select a house that meets the needs of the bats. The OBC has developed bat house specifications based on years of scientific research. OBC, in conjunction with WBU, has developed two such houses.

Bats - The True Story
The Organization for Bat Conservation has recently released a new video entitled, "Bats - The True Story." Underwritten by Wild Birds Unlimited and OBC, this 35-minute video focuses on the myths and the facts that exist about bats and the important role bats play in our environment. This video is available through Wild Birds Unlimited stores.
