Do you watch birds at your feeder? If so, Project FeederWatch wants you to join the
more than 13,000 individuals who are participating in Project FeederWatch, a winter-long
survey of North American bird populations.
Project FeederWatch began in 1987 as a winter survey of the birds that visit backyard
feeders in the United States and Canada. The information collected helps ornithologists
track changes in the abundance and distribution of bird species that use feeders in the
winter. Wild Birds Unlimited, in partnership with Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology in the
United States and the Bird Studies Canada (an initiative of the Long Point Bird
Observatory) in Canada, is a sponsor of Project FeederWatch.
How You Can Become a FeederWatcher
It's fun and easy to be a FeederWatcher. Brochures with
more information about participating in Project FeederWatch are available at participating
Wild Birds Unlimited stores. In the United States, the enrollment fee is $15 (US funds).
In Canada, the fee is $25 (Canada funds). First-time participants receive a free bird
poster in their instruction packet. All renewing participants will receive the new
Bird-Watching Days calendar. Participants also receive the Cornell Lab of Ornithology
newsletter, Birdscope, with the latest FeederWatch results, articles on bird
behavior, answers to your bird questions and more.
