All aspects of nature are preparing for cold weather. Trees are turning colors, animals are storing food and, gardeners are thinking about covering their rose bushes. So why not make your yard a warm inviting place for the birds during colder weather. At Wild Birds Unlimited we have all the tools you will need to keep your backyard birds happy when it is cold out. For starters birds use a lot of energy just keeping warm. To help with this they need to have a good variety of high-energy foods readily available so that they don’t have to fly around looking for their next meal. Using any of our Quick-Clean seed tubes, Eco-Tough Next, and possibly most important of all for the birds is water. Finding water when it is cold can be quite a chore for birds when people start emptying their birdbaths and storing them away, for fear of freezing and breaking. A good solution for this is to buy a bird bath heater, so you can just plug it in and not have to worry about the cold. Another option to bring water close is to get a WBU heated birdbath that you can have free standing or clamped right on your wooden deck railing. Both options are thermostatically controlled so they will not use electricity unless it is below 40 degrees Fahrenheit out, both will keep water heated until it drops below negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit, and they both have a full 4 year warranty. Recycled hoppers, or Squirrel proof feeders with any of our fresh seed blends will be a good place to begin. Another high-energy food is Peanuts. Usually these are fed out of mesh feeders, and can be mixed with Suet Snacks for even more energy. We also carry a wide variety of suet cakes that will attract different birds to your yard.
