Q: What can I put in my bird bath to keep it clean?
We do not recommend putting anything in your bird bath to keep it clean. Every other day you should empty the bath, scrub it with a brush and rinse it well. Refill with fresh water. If the alga builds up quickly, you can use ten parts water to one part bleach solution to clean the bird bath. Be sure to rinse well and place fresh water in the bath.
Q: I have a bird bath heater and the water around the edges still freezes.
It is normal for a bird bath not to be completely free of ice, especially when there are days of freezing weather. As long as the bird bath has an opening from which the birds can access water from, the bird bath heater is doing its job.
