Q: How can I attract jays to my yard?
Feeding peanuts can be a great addition to your backyard bird feeding. Peanut feeders (or Jay Feeders) are especially fun because you can attract birds that may not be as likely to come to the regular seed feeders. A peanut feeder can attract birds such as titmice, jays, woodpeckers and nuthatches. Place the nuts in the jay feeder and leave the lid open so the birds can become accustomed to coming to the feeder and getting nuts. After the birds have gotten used to getting nuts from the feeder, stick a few nuts between the lid and the top of the feeder so the bird has to pull the nuts out. After a few days, place the nuts in the feeder and close the lid. Watch to see which birds open the lid to pull the peanuts which ones pull the peanuts out of the opening in the front of the feeder.
